Operating Hours and Travel Restrictions in Oregon

Standard Operating Hours

  • Regular travel: Permitted from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, seven days a week
  • Night travel: Allowed for loads up to 10 feet wide on green routes and up to 12 feet wide on Interstates

Seasonal Restrictions (Memorial Day to Labor Day)

  • Saturday travel limited until noon
  • Sunday travel prohibited
  • Exception: Loads less than 14 feet wide may have different rules

Urban Area Restrictions

For loads over 12 feet wide, travel is prohibited from 7 to 9 am and 3 to 6 pm in:

  • Portland
  • Medford
  • Grants Pass
  • Eugene
  • Salem urban areas
  • Medford on I-5 between exits 24 and 33

  • Rear overhang exceeding 4 feet: Flag or red end load lights required
  • Areas with visibility less than 500 feet: Red end load lights necessary
  • Loads wider than 10 feet on two-lane highway or 12 feet on multi-lane highway: Amber warning lights required unless accompanied by at least two pilot vehicles
