Signage Requirements
- “Oversize Load” signs required for loads over 10′ wide, 14’6″ high, or 75′ long
Flag Protocol
- Flags required on all extremities of oversize vehicles, loads, and protruding objects
Lighting Guidelines
- Operable amber lights required on all oversized and overweight permitted loads
- Lights must be oscillating, rotating, or flashing
- Visible from 500 feet, even in daylight, on both front and back
- For loads over 80′ long or 100′ combined: second light mounted 10′ from rear, high and visible
Securing Your Illinois Oversize Permit
Illinois offers various permit options to accommodate different transport needs:Permit Types
- Single trip oversize/overweight permits: Valid for five days
- Round trips and limited continuous operation legal weight permits
- Annual/quarterly permits for:
- Construction equipment (including stackable)
- Trusses
- Manufactured housing/storage buildings
- Stackable manufactured home frames
- Limited continuous operation overweight permits:
- Annual/quarterly oversize/overweight
- Agricultural commodities (40 days)
- Annual movement to derailment sites
- Annual/quarterly movement from disablement sites
- Annual/quarterly extreme heavy-duty tow and recovery
- Semi-annual repeated crossing of state-maintained roads
